Short Film Showcase: Ysabeaux Ng

Saturday, September 7 at 3 PM

Los Angeles screenwriter & director Ysabeaux Ng grew up in the Palouse and is returning for a weekend to share her latest work with the community that shaped her early career. Ysabeaux recently graduated from the American Film Institute Conservatory with an MFA in Screenwriting–one of her student crews shot a 14-minute film titled A Faded Yellow on location in the Palouse. Now specializing in children’s animated screenplays and live-action film direction, Ysabeaux is collaborating with the Kenworthy to screen A Faded Yellow and one other short film from her body of work as a thank-you to her homeland. The short film screening will be held September 7th, 2024 from 3 PM to 5 PM @ the Kenworthy Performing Arts Centre in Moscow, Idaho. A Q&A with Ysabeaux Ng will follow the short screening. Admission is free, but seating is limited–come early to grab a good seat! Doors open at 2:30.
MARTHA, MARTHA (12 min) A police investigation of their father’s sexual misconduct puts two sisters head to head from opposing sides of faith on how to face his culpability.
*This short comes with a thematic trigger warning—it depicts conversations about sexual assault/abuse. It mirrors the quiet lives of community members I knew and loved growing up in the Palouse. The audience will be given time prior to screening to step out for the duration of this film as preferred. The audience will then be given time to return to their seats prior to the screening of A Faded Yellow.
A FADED YELLOW (14 min) Farmer boys and cowboy boots compel a panicked Chinese father to stop his daughter from adopting the West’s most egregious trend–quitting tea.
*This is the short film shot on location in the Palouse. My father, along with his parents and siblings, immigrated to Colfax, WA from Taishan, China in the 70’s; A Faded Yellow is a tribute to my family and the community that received them half a century ago. Those same community members contributed to the production of this short, as well!
